Sachin Tendulkar retires from Test cricket after living Cricket dream
இந்தியாவின் நட்சத்திர கிரிக்கெட் வீரர் சச்சின் டெண்டுல்கர் தனது 200-வது டெஸ்ட் போட்டிக்குப் பிறகு ஓய்வு பெறப்போவதாகவும், கடைசி போட்டிகள் இந்திய மண்ணில் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று எதிர்நோக்கியிருப்பதாகவும் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.
1989-ம் ஆண்டு தனது 16-வது வயதில் சர்வதேச கிரிக்கெட்டில் அறிமுகம் ஆனார். 1989-ம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 15-ம் தேதி கராச்சியில் நடந்த டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு எதிராக களமிறங்கினார் சச்சின். இதேபோல் அவரது முதல் ஒருநாள் போட்டியும் பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு எதிராக போட்டியாக அமைந்தது. பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு எதிராக டிசம்பர் 18-ம் தேதி தனது முதல் ஒருநாள் போட்டியில் விளையாடினார்.
சச்சின் தனது அதிரடி ஆட்டத்தால் ரசிகர்களின் மனதில் நிரந்தர இடத்தை பிடித்திருந்தார். உலக வேகப்பந்து மற்றும் சுழர்ப் பந்து வீச்சாளர்களுக்கு சிம்ம சொப்பனமாக திகழ்ந்த சச்சின், எந்த வீரரும் எளிதில் எட்ட முடியாத அளவிற்கு, பல்வேறு உலக சாதனைகளை ஏற்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார்.
சர்வதேச ஒருநாள் போட்டிகளில் 18426 ரன்களும், டெஸ்ட் போட்டிகளில் 15837 ரன்களும் எடுத்து சாதனை படைத்துள்ளார். மூன்று வகை போட்டிகளிலும் அவர் 34 ஆயிரம் ரன்களுக்கும் அதிகம் எடுத்துள்ளார். டெஸ்ட் போட்டிகளில் 51 சதங்களும், ஒருநாள் போட்டிகளில் 49 சதங்களும் விளாசியிருக்கிறார். சர்வதேச போட்டிகளில் 100 சதங்கள் அடித்த ஒரே வீரர் சச்சின்தான். டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் அதிகபட்சமாக 248 ரன்கள் எடுத்துள்ளார். இவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் மேலாக ஒருநாள் போட்டிகளில் முதல் முறையாக இரட்டைச் சதம் அடித்து சாதனையின் புதிய மைல் கல்லை எட்டினார்.
இவ்வாறு பல்வேறு உலக சாதனைகளை ஏற்படுத்திய இந்தியாவின் மாஸ்டர் பேட்ஸ்மேன் ஒருநாள் மற்றும் 20-20 போட்டிகளில் இருந்து ஏற்கனவே ஓய்வு பெற்றுவிட்டார். இதுவரை 198 சர்வதேச டெஸ்ட் போட்டிகளில் விளையாடியுள்ள அவர், டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெறுவது பற்றி சமீபகாலமாக சிந்தித்து வந்தார்.
தீவிர ஆலோசனைக்குப் பிறகு தனது டெஸ்ட் போட்டிஓய்வு முடிவை இன்று அறிவித்துள்ளார் சச்சின். அதாவது, தனது 200-வது டெஸ்ட் போட்டிக்குப் பிறகு ஓய்வு பெறப்போவதாகவும், கடைசி போட்டிகள் இந்திய மண்ணில் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று எதிர்நோக்கியிருப்பதாகவும் அவர் கூறியுள்ளார்.
சச்சின் தனது ஓய்வு முடிவு தொடர்பாக இந்திய கிரிக்கெட் கட்டுப்பாட்டு வாரியத்திற்கு கடிதம் எழுதியுள்ளார். அந்த கடிதத்தில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:-
200-வது டெஸ்ட் கிரிக்கெட் போட்டியுடன் டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெற உள்ளேன். வெஸ்ட் இண்டீஸ் அணிக்கு எதிரான டெஸ்ட் போட்டி எனது கடைசி போட்டியாக இருக்கும். எனது வாழ்நாள் முழுவதும் இந்தியாவுக்காக விளையாடவே நான் கனவு கண்டேன். அந்த கனவுடனேயே கடந்த 24 வருடங்களாக வாழ்ந்து வந்திருக்கிறேன். எனது 11 வயது முதல் நான் செய்தது எல்லாம் கிரிக்கெட் மட்டும்தான். அதனால் கிரிக்கெட் இல்லாத என் வாழ்க்கையை எண்ணிப்பார்க்கவே கடினமாக உள்ளது. உலகம் முழுவதும் சென்று எனது நாட்டிற்காக விளையாடியதை கவுரவமாக கருதுகிறேன். நான் விளையாடும் கடைசி போட்டி இந்திய மண்ணில் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கிறேன்.
சர்வதேச டெஸ்ட் போட்டியில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெற இதுவே சரியான தருணம் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். நான் கிரிக்கெட் விளையாடுவதற்கு ஊக்கம் அளித்து பொறுமை காத்த எனது குடும்பத்தினர், எனக்கு ஊக்கமும் வலிமையும் அளித்த நலம் விரும்பிகளுக்கு எனது நன்றியை தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். எல்லாவற்றிக்கும் மேலாக எனது ரசிகர்களுக்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்துக்கொள்கிறேன்.

Sachin Tendulkar, the man who gave nightmares to bowlers, inspired fellow batsmen to be like him and helped umpires forget how tiring it can be to stand on the field all day long, will quit Test cricket after playing his 200th match next month.
“It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world,” Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket, said in a statement.
The statement issued by the BCCI on his behalf reads:
“All my life, I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years. It’s hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it’s all I have ever done since I was 11 years old. It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.

He is without doubt the greatest cricketer India has produced. In fact one should really say he ranks among the top of all time great sports persons in the world.”
“No one has served Indian cricket as Sachin has. He has truly been an Ambassador for India and Indian Cricket. He has been an inspiration for generations of sportsmen not just cricketers. We respect his decision to retire although many of us can’t imagine an Indian team without Sachin.”

Tendulkar has already retired from ODIs. His last test will be against the West Indies at a yet to be determinted venue from November 14-18.
Sachin: the living legend
At 5’5″, Tendulkar was not exactly the most colossal player to stride on to the field but he bows out as a giant, who ruled cricket for 24 years and gave his legion of fans mesmeric and emotionally overwhelming memories.
With a mountain of runs good enough to bury a statistician to death, Tendulkar’s retirement creates a vacuum so huge that one can safely say that cricket would never be the same again.
The 40-year-old Tendulkar is the most prolific batsman in international cricket history with 15,837 runs in 198 tests and 18,426 runs in 463 one-day internationals. He also holds the record for most centuries in tests (51) and ODIs (49). It is a feat so huge in magnitude that no contemporary or even a talented successor of his, looks capable of overhauling it in the near or distant future.

Being a part-time bowler, he has taken 45 wickets at an economy rate of 3.51.
His journey started way back in 1989 when he was just 16 years of age.
A disarming smile, curly locks, resolute eyes and abundant talent, this was the Tendulkar who first stepped on to the minefield that is Test cricket against a ferocious Pakistani bowling attack boasting of that deadly combo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Tendulkar gave an early display of his steely resolve when he continued to bat in a blood-soaked shirt despite being hit on his face.
That resolve came to define the little man who had the world’s most feared bowlers bowing in admiration of his talent and skill. His wicket, in fact, remains the most cherished for all those who managed to have it against their name.
